Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Even with an explosive offensive start at the plate, the Lady Buffs were unable to top the St. Edward's Hilltoppers in game one of the doubleheader Sunday morning. Two errors committed in the first and second innings would lead to four unearned Hilltopper runs. The Lady Buffs drop to 2-3 overall with the loss.

"We came out and jumped on them early, but a couple of defensive miscues gave them the lead," said Head Coach Kevin Blaskowski. "After that, we were unable to create any offense."

A two-out three run homer blasted past the fences at St. Edward's Diane Daniels Field by designated hitter Meghan Brown (So, Kate, Texas) gave the Lady Buffs an early 3-0 lead against the Hilltoppers. This is Brown's second home run in this weekend's games. Brown's first home run of the season came during the 13-0 win over Cameron early Saturday morning.

In the bottom of the first, the Hilltoppers would load the bases with just one out and a base on ball would provide the St. Edward's with their first run of the game. At full count with bases loaded, Jenny Vatteressian would line a ball down the middle of the field to drive in two more runs for the Hilltoppers.

Marci Womack would strike out the next two batters to end the forty five minute inning tied at 3-3.

Back to back to back singles would load the bases in the top of the second. Kristina Myles would single to right field followed by a Meghan Slattery (Fr, Houston, Texas) singled to center field and an Amber Farr (Sr, Collinsville, Texas) shot into right field loaded the bases. Kasey Henderson's (Jr, Katy, Texas) sacrifice fly would provide the second out and first run of the inning. The Lady Buffs end the top of the second up by one on the Hilltoppers, 4-3.

A triple by St. Edward's Courtney Lavender to the outfield drove in two more runs and a single would drive in Lavender to top the Lady Buffs 6-4 in the bottom of the second.

In the third the Hilltoppers would strike again, turning in two more runs to bring their lead to 8-4 over the Lady Buffs.

Marci Womack (1-2) picked up the loss in the circle for the Lady Buffs.

The Lady Buffs face the Hilltoppers in game two this afternoon with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. CST.
