Lady Buffs Fall to St. Mary's, 6-3
Feb. 7, 2010 SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Coming off a decisive win against Cameron in the morning, the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs were unable to top host St. Mary's in over a three hour and forty minute grueling match between the two schools. Even though the Lady Buffs struck first, they were unable to bring home the win and fall to 2-2 overall. "This was a great early season game between two great teams," said head coach Kevin Blaskowski. "They made some great defensive plays." In the first, Amber Farr (SR, Collinsville, Texas) singled to left field and would eventually reach home after three of her teammates walked. The Lady Buffs would start the game off with a 1-0 lead. St. Mary's Miller would reach home in the bottom of the first to tie up the score 1-1. The Rattlers would capture the lead in the bottom of the second driving in three more runs to a 4-0 lead. A Brooke Webster (FR, Keller, Texas) single to left field would drive in two more Lady Buffs to close the Rattler's lead to 4-3 in the top of the third. But a home run by Rattler Alyssa Alfaro in the bottom of the third with teammate Richelle Morales on base would improve the Rattler's lead and the final score of the game to 6-3. Shelbey Cockrell (SO, Pearland, Texas) would pick up the loss in the circle for the Lady Buffs, giving up a total of six runs in nine hits. "We never gave up," said coach Blaskowski. "I was happy with our intensity." The Lady Buffs travel to St. Edward's Sunday to face the Hilltoppers in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. CST.
