Lady Buffs Crush Cameron, 13-0, with Early 8-0 Lead
Feb. 6, 2010
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - An early eight run lead in the bottom of the first inning lead the Lady Buffs to a decisive, 13-0, victory over Cameron early Saturday morning. With the win, the Lady Buffs improve to 2-1 overall. A series of singles, walks and a double into left field would capture the early 8-0 lead. Amber Farr (SR, Collinsville, Texas) once again was the first Lady Buff to reach home plate after Kaitlyn Witte (JR, Midland, Texas) was walked with bases loaded. Another two walk by the Cameron pitcher allowed Kasey Henderson (JR, Katy, Texas) and Kim LeComte (SO, Boerne, Texas) to reach home plate on the next two plays. Christie Russell then laced a double into left field to drive two more runs in. "It was great to jump on them early," said Head Coach Kevin Blaskowski. "Our hitters did a great job of being disciplined at the plate." The Lady Buffs would continue to add more runs to the score as Witte fresh out of the dugout belted a home run past the fences to improve the lead to 9-0 in the second. Teammate Meghan Brown would also blast a home run fresh off the bench in the fourth inning. A Farr single to left field followed by a Rachel Cavallaro (Sr, Fort Collins, Colo.) double would drive in the final four runs of the game. The Lady Buffs would come away with a 13-0 victory. All in all the Lady Buffs recorded an impressive 13 runs in just 12 hits.
Marci Womack (SO, Sulphur Springs, Texas) picked up the win (1-1) in the circle for the Lady Buffs after a three hit, four inning performance. "Marci did a great job of being disciplined at keeping their batters off-balance," said coach Blaskowski. The Lady Buffs will face host St. Mary's at 1 p.m. CST this afternoon. |
