2008 (FRESHMAN) Witte emerged as one of the top hitters in the LSC during her freshman campaign, earning LSC South Freshman of the Year and honorable mention All-LSC. She started all 58 games, with 29 at designated player, 24 at first base, five at second base and five in the pitching circle. She led the Lady Buffs in home runs, posted a .582 slugging percentage and a .450 on-base percentage. She also had 35 runs scored, six doubles and was a perfect 3-for-3 on the base path. She connected on her first home run of the season on Feb. 17 during a 1-for-2, three RBI performance against Emporia State. The following day saw her slug two home runs and drive in a season-high five runs with three runs scored, in a 2-for-3 day against Cameron. Witte was a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a game-winning home run in a win over East Central during the LSC Crossover Tournament. She also connected on a game-winning home run the next day in a win over Midwestern State. She was selected as the LSC South Hitter of the Week on April 2 for her efforts during the LSC Crossover tourney, where she had a .440 batting average, with three home runs and 10 RBIs. Witte began the season as on of the top pitchers on the Lady Buff roster, but an injury limited her to only six appearances. She was solid season prior to her injury, registering a 3-2 record with a 3.54 earned run average and 21 strikeouts in 29.2 innings pitched. She tossed back-to-back shutouts on Feb. 12, and, on Feb. 17 she threw a one hitter in a five-inning win over Texas-Permian Basin.
HIGH SCHOOL Witte attended Midland, Texas, Lee HS where she emerged as an outstanding college prospect in both the pitching circle and in the field. She garnered all-state honors from TGCA three times, in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and twice from Texas Sports Writers Association in 2005 and 2006. She was a three time District 3-5A MVP selection. As a senior, Witte posted a 20-1 pitching record with a .90 earned run average and a total of 286 strikeouts. She had a .430 batting average, with six home runs and 40 RBIs. She served as the team captain during her junior and senior campaign. She received the Lee HS Clutch Hitter award all four seasons of her prep career and the Gene Smith Fighting Lady Rebel award in 2007. Witte was also a member of the National Honor Society and Who's Who Among American High School Students.
PERSONAL Witte is the daughter of Gary and DeLynnda Witte. She has one sister, Meghan who is a recent WTAMU graduate. She is majoring in Athletic Training at WTAMU. |
