Jackie Poggendorf joins the Lady Buff program this season after a standout career in both the collegiate and professional softball ranks and will serve as graduate assistant for the team. Her duties included working with the team's outfielders and base runners while also assisting with the program's recruiting efforts. Prior to coming to West Texas A&M, Poggendorf was an assistant coach at Shadow Mountain High School in her hometown of Phoenix, Ariz., where she worked with the team's pitchers, outfielders and base running while also serving as head coach of the school's freshman team. Before setting out on her coaching career, Poggendorf played professionally during the 2006 season in the Italian Women's League with the New Bologna softball team. During her time overseas, she played both outfield and starting pitcher, collecting a .275 average at the plate and a 1.45 ERA with 100 strikeouts in 121 innings pitched. Poggendorf first stint in professional softball came in 2005 when she joined the Akron Racers of the Natioanl ProFastpitch League. With the Racers, she saw action in both the pitching circle and the outfield on her way to helping the team capture the 2005 NPF Championship. During her college days at Miami University, Poggendorf became one of the most decorated players in Redhawk softball history, finishing as the program's career leader in wins (63), strikeouts (672), innings pitched (793.0) appearances (148) and games started (106). Poggendorf was twice named Mid-America Conference Tournament MVP in both 2003 and 2005 in addition to guiding the school to its first ever MAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance during the `05 campaign. Also in the 2005 season, Poggendorf was named second team NFCA All-Mideast Region and first team All-MAC after garnering second team all-conference accolades in both of the previous two seasons. In addition to her exploits in the circle, Poggendorf was also a standout outfielder for Miami, producing a career batting average of .292 with an individual season best of .314 in 2005. She finished her time at Miami second in the Redhawk softball record books with 33 career doubles. Following her playing career, Poggendorf served as a volunteer assistant for the Miami softball program and assisted the team's pitching coach and in general practice operations. Poggendorf is currently pursuing her master's degree in sports & exercise science. |
