Two members of the West Texas A&M University Lady Buff soccer team were named to the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team, while another was named to the LSC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. Sarit Shenar and Katie Henley garnered All-Academic Team honors, while Sarah Anderson earned Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll Accolades, announced by the conference office.

Henley, a senior forward from Azle, Texas, has a 3.77 GPA as a pre-medicine major. She was also a second-team CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine All-District selection, as well as a first-team All-LSC honoree. Henley scored five goals this season for a total of 10 points in leading WTAMU to a second-place regular season finish in the LSC, after being eliminated from the LSC Tournament in the semifinals by Midwestern State University, 1-0. Henley netted a total of 29 career goals and 14 assists for 72 career points. She is a two-time first-team All-LSC selection, earning the honor last season and this year. Henley was also named to the LSC All-Academic Team last season, in addition to being named to the first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District list last year. She was also a member of the 2003 WTAMU NSCAA Team Academic Award.

Junior forward Sarit Shenar was one of two Lady Buffs to be named to the LSC All-Academic Team.

Shenar, a junior forward from Rehovot, Israel, is majoring in chemistry with a 3.72 GPA. She also garnered first-team CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine All-District honors. This season Shenar scored seven goals and two assists for 16 points in nine matches before suffering a season-ending knee injury in early October. Last season, she was named to the first-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American, becoming the first-ever first-team All-American from WTAMU and just the second in Lady Buffs' nine-year history. Shenar was also a first-team All-Midwest Region selection, as well as the LSC Offensive Player of the Year and named the first-team All-LSC list. She was selected to the LSC All-Tournament Team, after leading WTAMU to the championship match, where they lost to TAMU-Commerce, 2-1, in OT. This season, she was the LSC Preseason Player of the Year and is also a two-time LSC Player of the Week honoree. Last year Shenar was named to the second-team CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Anderson, a sophomore goalkeeper from Evergreen, Colo., has a 3.54 GPA majoring in psychology. This season she had a 1.17 goals against average, yielding 13 goals while recording 46 saves for a .780 save percentage. Anderson tied for second in the LSC with five shutouts and was sixth in the league in goals against average.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Anderson was named to the LSC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

The All-Academic Team is selected by the league's sports information directors, who vote on the ba sis of both academic and athletic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes need at least a 3.20 grade point average and must be at least a sophomore. All academically qualified student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Altogether, 41 soccer players were recognized for their academic success, including 11 on the All-Academic Team plus another 30 on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Texas A&M University-Commerce forward Erin de Wolfe was named Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year.

WTAMU ended its season with a 10-6-1 mark. For the first time in five years WTAMU did not play in the LSC Tournament Championship game, as the second-seeded Lady Buffs were knocked off in the semifinals.

The Lady Buffs also had their string of consecutive appearances in the NCAA-II Tournament snapped at four years in a row, as they advanced to the Regional semifinals in 2003 for the first time in school history.
