Elisabeth Markussen Named LSC Co-Offensive Player of the Year

CANYON, Texas - Junior forward Elisabeth Markussen claimed Lone Star Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Year accolades in addition to being named to the All-LSC first team, announced Thursday evening during a reception at the LSC Championship. Sophomore midfielder Adi Stein also earned All-LSC first team recognition. Markussen scored 14 goals, including four game-winners, during regular season play as West Texas A&M finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-6 and a 5-5 Lone Star Conference mark. Her goal tally ties her for fifth in WT's record books for goals in a season and moving her up to second in goals in a career, with 30. She also added three assists, to tie her point total from last year (31), which puts her sixth in points in a season. Her 31 points pushes her career point total to 70, putting her in third place in points in a career, just two points behind the second place spot. Stein was one of the most productive playmakers this year, tying for second on the team with six assists. With her seven assists as a freshman, Stein moves up to eight in WT's record books for assists in a career (13). She also added two goals this season for a total of 10 points. Regular season conference champion Central Oklahoma had 11 players recognized on the All-LSC women's soccer teams after an undefeated run through the Lone Star Conference. UCO recorded a perfect 10-0 league record to win its fourth straight LSC regular season title and earn the top seed and right to host the championship this weekend. The Bronchos also extended their conference unbeaten streak to 35 straight games and have gone three consecutive seasons without losing a league match. The Bronchos had six first-team selections, three second-team choices and two honorable mention players make the list. UCO also received three individual awards, with Co-Offensive Player of the Year Carmen Davis, Defensive Player of the Year Carly Fischer and Coach of the Year Mike Cook.
Eastern New Mexico's Hannah Dozier and Midwestern State's Kendra Clemens were tabbed as Co-Freshman of the Year. In total, 48 student-athletes were recognized with the all-conference honors program, including at least one player from each of the 11 women's soccer teams in the league.
