WTAMU Women's Soccer Players Earn Conference Academic Honors

CANYON, Texas - A host of West Texas A&M women's soccer players were named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their efforts in the classroom, including Jessica Hartley, Sarah Pipkin, Eti Sages, Kayla Sisco and Megan Szydloski. Junior defenders Hartley, an engineering major, and Szydloski, a public relations major, have helped the Lady Buff outscore opponents by a 47-22 margin and hold opponents to just 95 shots on goal. The defensive duo's strong stand in the back helped WT goalkeepers record four shutouts. Sophomore midfielder Sisco, who was recognized on the All-Midwest Region and All-LSC first teams following her first year in Canyon, has been a scoring force for the Lady Buffs, recording seven goals and one assist. She is studying early childhood education. Pipkin made two starts in four games played during her senior season in goal for WT, recording seven saves and allowing just three goals. She will graduate in the spring with a degree in sports & exercise science with an emphasis in math. Junior midfielder Sages studies accounting and appeared in four games for the Lady Buffs this season. The All-Academic Team is selected by the league''s sports information directors, who vote on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes need at least a 3.20 grade point average and must be at least a sophomore. All academically qualified student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Altogether, 58 soccer players were recognized for their academic achievement, including 11 on the All-Academic Team plus another 47 on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
