Lady Buffs Head to Metroplex for Last Two Matches

The West Texas A&M University Lady Buff soccer team will head to the Dallas Metroplex for a pair in Lone Star Conference matches to close out regular-season action. WTAMU will play Texas Woman's University on Friday Oct. 28, at 7 p.m., at Denton, Texas, and then head to Commerce, Texas on Sunday, Oct. 30 to take on Texas A&M University-Commerce at Noon.
The Lady Buffs were at home this past weekend and went 1-1 in their final home matches of the season. WTAMU defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Friday, 4-1. The Lady Buffs got three second half goals to secure the victory, with two of those second half goals coming from senior forward Katie Henley who was playing in her final weekend at home as a Lady Buff. Fellow seniors, midfielder Roxy Sides and defender Misti Northcutt tallied a goal in their final weekend as well. The Lady Buffs were defeated in their second game of the weekend, 1-0, by the University of Central Oklahoma, who now is in first place in the LSC.
Henley has stepped up and replaced injured forward Sarit Shenar, by scoring all five of her goals this season after Shenar went out. Henley ranks eighth in the league in goals per game with 0.42. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Anderson is fifth in the conference with five shutouts, as well as eighth in both saves (53/4.08 pg) and save percentage (.779).
WTAMU has slipped to No. 7 in the NCAA-II Midwest Regional Rankings, which determine the Regional Tournament field, taking the top four to the Regional Tournament.
Texas Woman's University is 8-7-1 on the season and 3-4 in the LSC. The Pioneers went 0-1-1 last weekend, in which they tied St. Mary's University, 2-2, and then were defeated in their second match, 3-0, by Texas A&M-Commerce. Leading the Pioneers on the season has been junior midfielder Emily Meinen who has tallied six goals on the season for a total of 12 points. Meinen is tied for seventh in the conference statistics in goals and tied for 10th in points. Also helping out on offense has been senior forward Melissa Scott who has four goals and two assists on the season for 10 points.
Texas A&M-Commerce brings an 8-5-2 overall and 3-2-2 LSC ledger into the final weekend of the regular-season. The Lady Lions went 1-0 last weekend with a 3-0 victory over Texas Woman's on Sunday. TAMU-C has been led on the season by senior forward Erin de Wolfe who has recorded eight goals and 10 assists so far giving her 26 total points. de Wolfe leads the LSC and ranks 12th in NCAA-II in assists, as well as leading the conference in points and ranking second in goals. Also helping out on the offensive side of the ball has been freshman midfielder Jessica Pierce who has seven goals and two assists so far on the season which gives her 16 points. Pierce is tied for fifth in the league in points and tied for third in goals.
TAMU-Commerce is ranked tied for No. 4 in the NCAA-II Midwest Region Rankings.
The Lady Buffs continue to play on the road next weekend and will be going to Edmond, Okla., for the Lone Star Conference Tournement which will be hosted by Central Oklahoma, which begin Nov. 3.
