Lady Buffs To Make Up Angelo State Game Wednesday
Oct. 11, 2005
The West Texas A&M University Lady Buff soccer team will play on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium against Angelo State in a make-up game after Sunday's match against ASU was rained out. The Lady Buffs were leading in the game on Sunday 2-0 when the game was called after only playing five minutes of the second half. NCAA rules state that a match has to go at least 70 minutes before the match can stand and be official, so the game on Wednesday will start off at 0-0, from the beginning.
The Lady Buffs fared well against Midwestern State on Friday Oct. 7, when they defeated the Lady Indians, 1-0. The goal came in the 70th minute as senior midfielder Roxy Sides crossed the ball and it was headed in by junior midfielder Kelly Ulm. The win put WTAMU at a 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play and a 5-3-1 record overall. The Lady Buffs go into Wednesday's contest sitting third in the conference.
Angelo State is 5-6-1 and is currently sitting tied for fifth in Lone Star Conference play with a 2-1 record. Angelo beat Mesa State, 2-0, and then tied Fort Lewis on Sunday, 0-0, last week. ASU then lost to Eastern New Mexico University, 2-1, on Friday. The Rambelles are led on the season by freshmen forward Brittany Tollison who has tallied four goals and two assists for a total of 10 points. Also contributing on the offensive side is freshmen midfielder Tricia Evers who has tallied three goals and one assist for a total of seven points.
WTAMU will head back on the road next weekend with games on Friday Oct. 14 to Tahlequah, Okla., at Northeastern State University and Sunday Oct. 16 against East Central University at Ada, Okla. Both matches will be at 1 p.m.
The Lady Buffs return home for the final time on Oct. 21 and 23 against Southwestern Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma, respectively.
