Lady Buffs Return Home for Pair of LSC Matches

The Lady Buff soccer team of West Texas A&M University will return home this weekend to host a pair of Lone Star Conference matches, first against Midwestern State University on Friday at 2 p.m. and Sunday against Angelo State University at 1 p.m. Both matches are part of WTAMU's Homecoming festivities, and will be played at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
WTAMU finally returns home after almost a month of being gone. The Lady Buffs are coming off a 1-1 weekend in which they lost to #7 Regis, 3-0, last Friday, and then beat Colorado State University-Pueblo 4-2. Against CSU-Pueblo, WTAMU got out to a 2-0 lead on a goal by senior midfielder Misti Northcutt in the 18th minute and another from junior midfielder Whitney McClain in the 32nd minute. CSU-P tied up the game with two goals by the 49th minute. WTAMU came right back with a goal from freshmen defender Sally deJongh and then junior forward Sarit Shenar added a goal in the 84th minute.
Shenar leads the Lady Buffs with 16 points, netting seven goals and dishing out two assists. Sophomore netminder Sarah Anderson yields 1.83 gaa, recording 34 saves on the season.
Midwestern State is 4-4-1 so far on the season and Midwestern sits second in the conference standings, currently with a 2-0 record. The Lady Indians defeated Mesa State on Sunday, 2-1, in overtime. The Lady Indians have spread their offensive production around, as Cassidy Guice, is the only MSU player with two goals, while 10 other players have one goal apiece.
Angelo State is 5-6-1 and is currently sitting third in Lone Star Conference play with a 2-1 record. Angelo beat Mesa State, 2-0, and then tied Fort Lewis on Sunday, 0-0. The Rambelles are led on the season by freshmen forward Brittany Tollison who has tallied four goals and two assists for a total of 10 points. Also contributing on the offensive side is freshmen midfielder Tricia Evers who has tallied three goals and one assist for a total of seven points.
WTAMU will head back on the road next weekend with games on Friday Oct. 14 at Northeastern State University and Sunday Oct. 16 at East Central University. Both games will be at 1 p.m.
The Lady Buffs return home for the final time on Oct. 21 and 23 against Southwestern Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma.
