Lady Buffs Travel North to Colorado for Two Matches

The West Texas A&M University Lady Buff soccer team will travel this weekend to Colorado to for a pair of non-conference matches. The Lady Buffs will open on Friday with a match against seventh-ranked Regis University at 5 p.m. Central Time and then play Colorado State University-Pueblo on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Central Time. WTAMU is coming off their second long layoff of the season having last weekend's matches cancelled because of Hurricane Rita. The Lady Buffs are 3-2-1 on the season and 1-0 in LSC conference play. The Lady Buffs last played Sept. 21 at Eastern New Mexico and defeated them, 5-2, rallying from a 2-0 deficit and a 2-1 halftime score. So far this season the Lady Buffs have been sparked by junior forward Sarit Shenar who has six goals and two assists on the season for a total of 14 points. Also helping out on offense has been freshman midfielder Elisabeth Markussen who has two goals and an assist for five total points.
The No. 7 Regis Lady Rangers are 8-1 so far this season and 6-1 in conference play. Regis is coming off a very successful weekend in which they defeated Colorado Christian, 8-1, and also defeated Colorado State-Pueblo, 2-1. Regis is led by senior forward Kate Murphy, a Plano, Texas, native, who has been very effective scoring 13 goals and seven assists which gives her a total of 33 points already this season. Leading the defense is junior goalkeeper Joanna Humphreys who has only allowed two goals on the season and has 22 saves so far.
WTAMU's second match will be against Colorado State-Pueblo, who is 3-7-1 on the season and 1-6 in conference play. Colorado State-Pueblo is coming off a tough weekend in which they were beaten twice by nationally ranked opponents. The Lady Thunderwolves lost to #1 Metro State, 6-1, and #7 Regis University, 2-1. CSU-Pueblo has been led so far this season by sophomore midfielder Robin Hayes who has tallied four goals for eight points on the season and also by freshman forward Beccah Drennan who has three goals and five assists for 11 total points.
WTAMU will return home next weekend to host a pair of LSC matches against Midwestern on Oct. 7 and Angelo State on Oct. 9.
