The women's soccer team remians unbeaten at 8-0-1

Sept. 25, 2006

CANYON, Texas - It is a full slate of action this week for the West Texas A&M men's and women's soccer teams, as they each play two matches. The No. 10 Lady Buffs will return to the field Tuesday at Midwestern State, and host Dixie State (Utah) Saturday at noon. The Buffaloes will also be in Wichita Falls to play Colorado School of Mines Friday and No. 1 Fort Lewis Sunday.

WTAMU women's soccer team remained unbeaten as it tied Angelo State 2-2 Thursday, after falling behind in the first half 2-0. Sophomore Elisabeth Markussen (Borkup, Denmark) scored her seventh goal of the season, while freshman Kendal Kitchens (Lubbock, Texas) tied the match with her fourth goal of the year, four minutes before the end of regulation.

WTAMU is 8-0-1 and sits at third place in the Lone Star Conference standing with a 1-0-1 league record, while Midwestern State is tied for fourth, just a half game behind at 1-1-1. The Lady Buffs and Mustangs split a pair of matches last season, with WTAMU taking the regular season meeting and MSU getting pay back with a 1-0 victory in the LSC Tournament, as the overall record between the two schools is 9-8-1.

On Saturday, it will be the first meeting between Dixie State and WTAMU, as Dixie State is in its first season as four year school -- the Rebels participate in the Pacific West Conference.

The Buffaloes meanwhile are coming off a four match home stand in which they went 2-1-1. WTAMU rallied from behind 2-0 against Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 20 to win 3-2, but fell short to Midwestern State 2-1 on Sept. 22.

Freshman Daniel Bulley (Exeter, England) and sophomore Itamar Keinan (Kiryat, Israel) had big weeks against Eastern New Mexico and Midwestern State. Bulley had two goals and an assist for the week, while Keinan scoring the equalizer 12 seconds before the end of regulation and added the winning goal two minutes into the extra period to lead the furious come back against ENM.

The Buffaloes are .500 overall against both Colorado opponents this week, holding a 3-3-1 record against Mines and a 6-6-1 record with Fort Lewis. WTAMU has defeated Fort Lewis, four of the last five meetings and has won two of the last three meetings against Mines.
