Lady Buffs Have Trio of Matches in Colorado
Sept. 24, 2003
The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team opens their three-match road trip to Colorado today, taking on Fort Lewis at 2 p.m. Central Time at Durango, Colo.
The Lady Buffs (3-1) are coming off a 3-0 win at home against Southwestern Oklahoma on September 19, and look to continue their winning ways.
The Fort Lewis Skyhawks enter Wednesday's match at 1-4-1 this season. The Lady Buffs beat the Skyhawks last year at home 3-0 and are 4-0 in the all-time series against them.
The WTAMU women then travel to Denver, Colo. to take on an unbeaten Metro State Roadrunners (8-0-0, 4-0-0 RMAC) on Friday, September 26, at 2 p.m. CT, in a rematch of last year's NCAA Regional Quarterfinal match in which the Lady Buffs lost in double penalty shots. Metro State went on to play until they lost in the NCAA Final Four 1-0 to Christian Brothers. The Roadrunners have scored 26 goals thus far in the season and allowed only three.
Their last match of the three-match road trip takes them to Lakewood, Colo., against Colorado Christian Cougars (1-4-1) on Sunday, September 28, at 2 p.m. CT. The Cougars, who have lost the last two games in a row, have failed to score a goal in the last two matches, losing 3-0 and 5-0.
Look for freshman Sarit Shenar (5-5, Rehovot, Israel) to improve upon her debut match against Southwestern Oklahoma in which she scored two second half goals. Sophomore forward Whitney Cates leads the Lady Buffs on the year in scoring with three goals. The Lady Buffs have scored eight goals in their last four-games and look to continue shaking the nets.
The three matches that the Lady Buffs play this week are all regional games that have an impact on the final standings of the year.
