Buff and Lady Buff Soccer Host Double-Header on Wednesday

CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M soccer teams host a double-header against Texas Wesleyan tomorrow, featuring the Buffaloes at 2 p.m. followed by the Lady Buffs at 4:30 p.m. This will be the men's first home match of the 2007 season. The Buffs are 3-0, 2-0 in the Southwest Soccer Conference, with road victories over UT-Permian Basin, Northeastern State and Missouri Southern. Senior René Gómez leads the men in points with five (two goals, one assist) while freshman Ben Everson has four points (two goals). Junior Tommy Nutter has dished out two assists, Gómez and senior Kenneth Christensen have one apiece. In goal, freshman Shane Taylor has one shutout in three games, during which he has made 11 saves (.846 save percentage) and allowed just two goals (0.67 goals against average). The Lady Buffs are 4-1 on the season and have yet to begin conference play. Their most recent win - a 2-0 victory over St. Mary's on Saturday - marked head coach Butch Lauffer's 150th win. For the women, junior Elisabeth Markussen has scored three goals and tallied two assists in five games. Junior Samantha Calcote also has three goals, while sophomore Kendal Kitchens has two goals and two assists. Sophomore Miriam Dominguez has tallied two assists and a goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Lisha Jungmann has made 23 saves (.821 save percentage) and allowed five goals (1.00 goals against average); the Lady Buff defense, spearheaded by junior Jessica Hartley and sophomore Kayla Sisco, has helped Jungmann record three shutouts. Earlier today, Jungmann was recognized as the Lone Star Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for her net minding efforts.
