West Texas A&M University women's soccer team member junior goalie Jamie Griffis (5-5, Plano, Texas) was named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the LSC office announced today (Sept. 10).

Griffis posted her first shutout of the season in the Lady Buffs' 2-0 victory over St. Mary's on Sunday. She recorded five saves, to earn her LSC career-record 23rd shutout. She also holds the LSC record for single-season shutouts and career goals against average.

She is a graduate of Plano High School.

The Lady Buffs are 2-1-0 on the season, having recently dropped out of the NSCAA/adidas Top 25 National Poll, are ranked No. 5 in the Midwest Region rankings.

WTAMU is off until Sept. 19, when the Lady Buffs host Southwestern Oklahoma in their LSC-opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
