CANYON, Texas - Chad Webb has been named as head women's soccer coach at West Texas A&M. He has served the previous 14 seasons as an assistant to Butch Lauffer.

Lauffer will now dedicate his efforts to the WT men's soccer program after having guided both programs over the past 14 seasons. For the past 13 of his 14 seasons at WTAMU,

Webb has been an assistant coach with the women's soccer program, where his main responsibilities have revolved around the everyday operations and coaching of the program. He handles the bulk of the recruiting duties for the Lady Buffs, while also assisting with the Buffalo men's team, as well.

"Under Coach Lauffer's direction, West Texas A&M soccer has grown and flourished with consistent success over the past two decades," said WTAMU Director of Athletics Michael McBroom. "Especially this past year, with both teams finishing with high national rankings. We have grown to such a point that I believe both teams should have full-time head coaches, each of whom will be able to devote their full attention to running their programs to continue to meet the high expectations we have of our teams and student-athletes."

"Chad Webb has demonstrated, over his 14 seasons with our soccer program, that he is ready to be our head coach," McBroom added. "West Texas A&M is in a very enviable position with Coach Lauffer, whom I consider one of the finest soccer coaches at any level, and with Coach Webb, who has been well-prepared for this opportunity by Butch. I couldn't ask for a better scenario for our soccer programs."

The Lady Buffs enjoyed a very successful 2009 campaign, as they advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history and recorded a 15-3-4 overall record. WT hosted both the LSC Tournament and NCAA Preliminary Rounds for the second consecutive season and won its second-consecutive LSC regular-season championship, as well as winning the NCAA South Central Region Championship.

The Lady Buffs have won either the Lone Star Conference regular-season or LSC Tournament title nine times since 1997. They won both titles in 2001 and 2008. And, during 2001, the Lady Buffs made their first-ever NCAA Division-II National Tournament appearance.

Following a brilliant four-year playing career with the Buffs, Webb served one season as a student assistant under Butch Lauffer before serving another four seasons as a graduate assistant.

During his playing career with the Buffaloes, from 1992-1995, Webb scored 10 goals and provided 20 assists while also serving as the Buffs' captain. As a junior, he earned a berth on the second-team Adidas all-West Region Academic list.

Webb, a native of Lubbock, Texas, holds a USSF "A" license, has been active in the community as a club coach with the High Plains Drifters and enjoys developing youth soccer talent in the Texas Panhandle. He conducts many soccer camps and clinics throughout the area each year, and, in 2002, was named Coach of the Year for the North Texas State Soccer Association.

He earned both his bachelor's (1998) and master's (2002) degrees in Mass Communication from WTAMU.

Webb lives in Amarillo with his wife, Joy, their two children, Autumn and Samuel, along with their many dogs.
