Lady Buffs Overpower Central Oklahoma, 5-1
Nov. 7, 2008 CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M women’s soccer took another step toward defending their Lone Star Conference Tournament championship on Friday afternoon, as they defeated the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma, 5-1, in front of 170 fans at The Pitch. Adi Stein (Junior, Jesher, Israel) put the Lady Buffs on the board in the 4:00 minute, as she scored on a penalty kick after being fouled in the box by UCO. The Bronshos tied up the match in the 20:00 minute on a goal by Katelyn Cropp from five yards out. Elisabeth Markussen (Senior, Borkup, Denmark) put WT ahead for good in the 28:00 minute off a pass from teammate Danea Fontana (Senior, Camarillo, California). The remainder of the match was dominated by the Lady Buffs, as Lindsay McHorse (Freshman, Georgetown, Texas) scored back to back goals along with teammate Becky Hewson (Freshman, Cambridge, England) adding her ninth goal of the season in the 82:00 minute to give WT the 5-1 victory. Lisha Jungmann (Junior, San Antonio, Texas) picked up the win in goal for the Lady Bufffs, tallying six saves on 15 UCO shots in the victory. The win propels the top seeded Lady Buffs to Sunday’s championship match against second seed Texas A&M-Commerce, who defeated Midwestern State, 3-0, earlier in the afternoon. WT is 15-3-1 overall on the season, while Commerce is 14-2-3. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
