EDMOND, Okla. -- For the first time in five years the West Texas A&M University women's soccer team will not be playing in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, as the second-seeded Lady Buffs were knocked off by third-seeded Midwestern State University, 1-0, in overtime Friday afternoon at Edmond, Okla. hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma.

WTAMU probably ends its season with a 10-6-1 mark, as the Lady Buffs are unlikely to make it to the NCAA-II Midwest Regionals due to being ranked No. 7 in the recent region rankings and the top four teams qualify. The Regional Tournament field will be announced Monday, Nov. 7.

The Lady Buffs lost three of their last four matches, as they failed to score in all three.

In Friday's match, WTAMU outshot MSU, 17-9 overall, including 10-3 in the second half, and 10-4 in shots on goal for the match, as Indians' goalkeeper Elli O'Dwyer made 10 saves, while Lady Buff sophomore netminder Sarah Anderson recorded three saves.

Junior forward Whitney McClain had six shots, including three on goal, while senior forward Katie Henley had three shots, two of them on goal.

MSU's Sabrina Periman took a long pass from Melissa Brown and beat Anderson to the ball and took the shot from just outside the box for the game-winner at the 93:30 mark of the match.

It was the second dramatic finish for the Indians in as many days, as they advanced to the semifinals with a on a penalty kick tiebreaker win over Angelo State University in the quarterfinals. The teams were tied 2-2 after regulation and played a pair of 10-minute overtime periods before MSU finally prevailed, 5-4, after seven rounds of penalty kicks.

The NCAA Division II women's soccer championship will provide for a 32-team, single-elimination tournament. Four teams will be chosen from each of the eight regions established by the women's soccer committee. For first- and second-round competition, teams will be paired in their respective regions with the No. 1 seed playing the No. 4 seed; and No. 2 seed playing the No. 3 seed on Friday, November 11. The winners of each game will advance to play one another on Sunday, November 13. First- and second-round games will be played at the same site.

The winner in each region will advance to the quarterfinals to be played on either Saturday, November 19 or Sunday, November 20. Championship selections will take place Monday, November 7.
