ADA, Oklahoma – The #9 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs clinched their second straight Lone Star Conference regular season title on Sunday afternoon as they defeated East Central, 3-0, in front of 130 fans at Lady Tiger Field in Ada, Oklahoma.

The win improves the Lady Buffs to 13-2-2 overall with a 7-2-1 mark in the LSC while East Central fell to 6-8-2 with a 3-7 conference mark.

The WT win along with a loss by Central Oklahoma to Texas Women’s has given the Lady Buffs their second consecutive regular season championship and the right to host the LSC Tournament this weekend. The tournament field and schedule will be released later this evening.

West Texas A&M started off the scoring in the 23:00 minute off of a goal by East Central that found its way into their own net. Melanie Shannon (SO, Kelowna, BC) extended the WT lead in the 46:00 minute off a pass from teammate Miriam Dominguez (SR, El Paso, Texas).

WT would add on more score, as Becky Hewson (SO, Cambridge, Engl.) scored her seventh goal of the season in the 72:00 minute to give the Lady Buffs the 3-0 victory.

Kelly Skehan ( JR, Klein, Texas) picked up the win in goal for WT, tallying three saves in a little over 74:00 minutes of play before giving way to Korey Schroeder (FR, Victoria, Texas) for the remainder of the match.

The Lady Buffs will now host the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Nov. 5-8 at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas. The tournament field and schedule will be released later this evening, so check back with www.gobuffsgo.com for more details.
