Lady Buffs Lose At TAMU-Commerce, 2-0, Sunday

COMMERCE, Texas -- The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team had a chance to win the regular-season Lone Star Coference championship, but those thoughts were denied by Texas A&M University-Commerce, who defeated WTAMU 2-0 on Sunday afternoon, securing the conference title for the University of Central Oklahoma, who beat Angelo State University 2-1 on Sunday in the final day of regular-season action. WTAMU will be the No. 2 seed in the LSC Tournament, and will receive a quarterfinal bye as they'll play in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4 at Noon at Edmond, Okla., hosted by Central Oklahoma.
WTAMU will face the winner of three-seed Midwestern State University and sixth-seeded Angelo State, who play on Thursday.
UCO is the No. 1 seed, and awaits the winner of fourth-seeded Texas A&M-Commerce and fifth-seed Texas Woman's University.

The Lady Buffs end regular season with a 10-5-1 overall and 7-2 LSC ledger, while TAMU-C enters the postseason with an 11-5-2 overall and 5-2-2 LSC record.
Sunday's win gives the Lions an unbeaten home record for the season, as TAMU-C was 7-0-1 on its home field this season, while the Lady Buffs' loss snaps a four-match road win streak.
The Lions netted their two goals exactly six minutes apart in the first period, as they scored at the 17:18 and 23:18 marks.
Melissa Arnold threw the ball into Erin de Wolfe, who crossed it to Bailey Geels for the goal.
Six minutes later Tamara Geels found her sister Bailey off another throw-in for the cross to de Wolfe, who headed in her team-leading 11th goal of the season.
TAMU-C outshot WTAMU, 18-13, but the shots on goal were even at 6 apiece. Senior forward Katie Henley fired three shots on goal, but they were all denied by Lion goalkeeper Amber Ramoz. WTAMU sophomore netminder Sarah Anderson registerd four saves in the loss.
WTAMU, which has been one of the top two seeds in three of the last four seasons, won the 2003 LSC Tournament and reached the championship match last year. It was the fourth-straight year and seven out of the nine years of the LSC Tournament that the Lady Buffs were in the title match.
WTAMU beat both Midwestern State and Angelo State by 1-0 scores at home on Oct. 7 and 12, respectively.
