TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team piled on five second-half goals to rout Northeastern State University, 6-0, Sunday.

Freshman forward Sarit Shenar and redhsirt freshman forward Dania Lopez netted two goals apiece to lead the Lady Buffs.

WTAMU won its fifth-straight game, and is unbeaten in its last six matches, improving to 10-3-2 overall and 5-1-2 in Lone Star Conference action. The Lady Buffs have shutout their last five opponents and have outscored the opposistion 23-1 during their six-game unbeaten streak.

NSU is now 11-4-0 overall, 4-3-0 in LSC play.

Shenar, who returned to the team this week after playing for the Israeli National Team, picked up right where she left off, tallying two goals in each match of her return. She had two in WTAMU's 4-0 win over East Central Friday. Shenar has scored a team-high 14 goals in 10 games, and has four assists, to lead the team with 32 points.

The Lady Buffs got on the board on Shenar's first goal of the game in the 25th minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Aubrey Findley.

The score was 1-0 at halftime, before WTAMU erupted for five second-half goals, starting with Shenar's second goal of the game in the 53rd minute off an assist from sophomore defender Roxy Sides.

Sophomore forward Whitney Cates scored off a chip shot from 15 yards out off an assist from Shenar in the 67th minute to put the Lady Buffs up 3-0.

Lopez netted her first goal of the game in the 78th minute unassisted to make it 4-0.

Freshman midfielder Annette McDuffee scored her first goal of the season off a penalty kick in the 81st minute and Lopez capped the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 85th minute.

 

 

Junior netminder Jamie Griffis made five saves to record her sixth shutout of the season and fifth-straight, extending her LSC record to 32 career shutouts.

The Lady Buffs are currently in third place in the LSC standings entering Friday's regular-season finale. WTAMU hosts conference leader and No. 18 Central Oklahoma (13-2-2 overall, 6-1 in LSC) in a Halloween night showdown at 7 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. The Bronchos knocked off No. 9 Texas A&M-Commerce, 2-0 Friday, but were upset by Texas Woman's, 1-0 Saturday. UCO hosts Missouri Southern Tuesday in a non-conference affair.
