WTAMU Women's Soccer Defeats Texas A&M-Commerce Friday 1-0

CANYON, Texas - Sophomore Megan Szydloski (Amarillo, Texas) scored the lone goal Friday afternoon during the 85th minute in a 1-0 win for the West Texas A&M women's soccer team, as it defeated Texas A&M-Commerce in Lone Star Conference action. In the first half, WTAMU created opportunities for itself getting seven shots off and two goal, but the Lady Buffs could not find the back of the net. The WTAMU defense held Commerce to two shots in the first stanza and its only shot on goal. During the second half, the Lady Buff defense continued to play strong, as they held the Lions to one shot in the last 45 minutes. WTAMU freshman goalkeeper Lisha Jungmann (San Antonio, Texas) earned her third career shutout, as she converted her only save chance early in the first half. On the goal for WTAMU, Szydloski was assisted by senior Sarit Shenar (Rehovot, Israel), who gave her team-high 13 assists on the season. The Lady Buff offense was also led by sophomore Elisabeth Markussen (Borkup, Denmark) and freshman Adi Stein (Desher, Israel), as they each tied for a match-high three shots. With the win WTAMU improves to 13-2-1 on the year and 5-2-1 in the LSC, while Commerce falls to 9-7-3 and 4-3-1 in the conference. Also in the LSC play, Angelo State fell to Central Oklahoma Friday, which will give the Lady Buffs either the second or third seed in the conference tournament next week in Edmond, Okla.
