Lady Buffs Win Over Rivals Midwestern

The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team won their third Lone Star Conference game Sunday, October 19th at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium against Midwestern State Indians, 2-0.
The Lady Buffs first goal in the 20th minute, came off WTAMU's first corner kick of the game, (their 16th in two games), from freshmen defender Cassie Burke who found senior defender Kellie Garrett at the top of the 18-yard box. Garrett headed it into the top corner of the net, past MSU's goalkeeper Elli O'Dwyer, for her second goal of the year.
WTAMU's second goal came in the 87th minute, when sophomore Katie Henley broke down the left side and found sophomore forward Whitney Cates alone in the six-yard box. Cates buried it in the back of the net for her sixth goal of the year.
The Lady Buffs finished the game with 24 shots, 13 on goal, while MSU had 10 shots, seven on goal.
The Lady Buffs also had 10 corner kicks to the Indians two.
WTAMU also led the foul count with 10 and one yellow card issued. MSU had seven fouls and one yellow card.
The Midwestern State Indians now have a 7-5-1 overall record, 1-2-1 in LSC play.
The Lady Buffs now have an overall record of 8-3-2, and 3-1-2 in LSC action.
They resume action this Friday, October 24 against East Central University at Ada, Oklahoma.
