Lady Buffs Win Fifth In a Row With 4-0 Shutout Over East Central

ADA, Okla. -- Getting goals from four different players, the West Texas A&M University women's soccer team blanked East Central University, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Ada, Okla., for the Lady Buffs' fifth win in a row, including the last four by shutouts.
With the win, WTAMU remains unbeaten in Lone Star Conference action and take over sole possession of first-place, thanks to the University of Central Oklahoma tying Texas A&M University-Commerce on Sunday.
The Lady Buffs improve to 8-3-1 overall, having won seven of their last eight matches, and 5-0 in LSC action, while ECU falls to 2-12 overall and 0-6 in LSC play.
Four different Lady Buffs netted goals in the match, starting with senior midfielder Roxy Sides in the 10th minute of a lead pass from freshman forward Danae Fontana. Freshman midfielder Elisabeth Markussen made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute, taking a one-touch back heel pass from Fontana and hitting the net from 10 yards out.
Junior forward Whitney McClain sent the Lady Buffs into halftime with a 3-0 lead after scoring off an assist from freshman midfielder Sally deJongh in the 41st minute.
The score remained 3-0 in WTAMU's favor until the 90th minute when senior forward Katie Henley took a through ball from freshman midfielder Samantha Calcote and hitting from eight yards out.
The Lady Buffs outshot the Lady Tigers, 24-7, including 15-3 in shots on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Anderson made three saves in recording her fourth shutout in a row and fifth of the season.
WTAMU returns home for the final time this season, hosting Southwestern Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma on Oct. 21 and 23, respectively. Friday's match starts at 3 p.m. and Sunday's Senior Day match starts at 1 p.m.
