West Texas A&M Women's Soccer Falls to Central Oklahoma
Oct. 14, 2007
CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M women's soccer team lost a 2-0 match to Central Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon at The Pitch, falling to 10-4 on the season and 4-3 in the Lone Star Conference. Broncho goalkeeper Carly Fischer stopped 10 Lady Buff shots as UCO scored one in each half to improve to 12-3-1 with an unblemished 6-0 conference mark. Both teams came out hard in the match and UCO almost scored midway through the first half when the ball was sent into the box from the right side; WTAMU goalkeeper Lisha Jungmann came out to intercept it but it bounced underneath her. Junior defender Jessica Hartley was standing on the goal line and she kicked her foot out behind her, making the save on Ashton Morris' shot to the near post to keep the Bronchos at bay. Morris eventually scored just 1:16 before the end of the first half with an assist from Kristen Juroch, who sent the ball into the box from the left side. Morris' first shot was blocked but the ball came right back to her and she found the back of the net from two yards out. The Bronchos went up, 2-0, in the 61st minute when Sarah Addison sent a long ball from the right side of the field to a wide open Carmen Davis on the left side of the box. Her shot beat WTAMU goalkeeper Lisha Jungmann on the near post from six yards in front of the net. The Lady Buffs pressured hard throughout the game and out-shot the Bronchos by a 31-15 margin, but Fischer was unbeatable in the net for UCO. Central Oklahoma also benefited from a team save as Kasey Mahaffey stopped a shot by Danea Fontana in the 86th minute. Kendal Kitchens sent a corner kick from the left side to the far post and Kayla Sisco headed it back towards the near post, but Mahaffey was able to stop Fontana's one-time shot on the goal line to ensure UCO's 2-0 win.
The Lady Buffs are back in action next week as they travel to Denton, Texas, to face Texas Woman's on Oct. 19, then head to Commerce, Texas, for a match against Texas A&M-Commerce on Oct. 21. |
