WTAMU Blanks Angelo State, 1-0, Wednesday

In the restart of the match originally scheduled for Sunday, but was cut short due to weather and started from scratch, the West Texas A&M University women's soccer team blanked Angelo State University, 1-0, Wednesday night at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Lone Star Conference action. It was WTAMU's third win in a row, while ASU is winless in the last three matches.
The Lady Buffs improve to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0 in LSC play, moving into a tie for first with the University of Central Oklahoma. The Rambelles drop to 5-8-1 overall and 2-3 in the LSC.
Freshman forward Danae Fontana netted WTAMU's goal in the 32nd minute, taking a cross from senior midfielder Roxy Sides and chipping it over ASU goalkeeper Becky Martin from 10 yards out. It was Fontana's second goal of the season and Sides tallied her fourth assist of the year.
The Lady Buffs outshot the Rambelles, 16-7, including 7-3 in shots on goal, as Martin made six saves. WTAMU sophomore netminder Sarah Anderson made three saves in recording her third shutout of the season.
WTAMU will head back on the road next weekend with games on Friday Oct. 14 to Tahlequah, Okla., at Northeastern State University and Sunday Oct. 16 against East Central University at Ada, Okla. Both matches will be at 1 p.m.
The Lady Buffs return home for the final time on Oct. 21 and 23 against Southwestern Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma, respectively.
