Lady Buffs Soccer Wins Easily Over Oklahoma City

The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team played to a 6-1 victory over the Oklahoma City University Stars at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium Friday, in a non-conference game, giving the Lady Buffs their 100th all-time victory.
WTAMU's first goal was scored by freshman forward Sarit Shenar in the sixth minute off assists from Katie Henley and Roxy Sides,to ignite the scoring furry of the Lady Buffs.
Sophomore forward Whitney Cates netted the second goal for the Lady Buffs in the 16th minute off a pass from Shenar and Sides, increasing the lead to 2-0.
WTAMU's third goal came from sophomore midfielder Katie Henley in the 24th minute off a Cassie Burke pass, giving Henley her first goal of the year, as well as her first of two in the game.
Shenar scored her second goal in the 28th on a through ball from Cates, that cleared the OCU defense.
This was Shenar's third game of the year to have scored two goals in a game. The Israeli native, who leaves next week to return home to play for the Israeli national team, has also scored at least one goal in WTAMU's last six games.
Henley's second goal came in the 34th minute also off another Cates pass, to make it 4-0. It was Cates' third assist of the game and fifth on the year.
OCU's Amanda Jones scored the lone goal for the Stars in the 35th minute, on a shot from outside the 18-yard box, deflecting off the crossbar and off outstretched WTAMU goalie Jamie Griffis.
Lady Buffs' junior midfielder Aubrey Findley scored the last goal of the game, just 18 seconds into the second half, off an assist from Cates.
This changed the momentum of the game to a kick ball style by the Stars, while WTAMU played a conervative style by passing the ball around, while controlling play for most of the game.
WTAMU took control of this game very early only allowing OCU to seven shots and two corner kicks, while the Lady Buffs had 22 shots and seven corners. Three yellow cards were given to WTAMU, while a yellow and a red card were issued to OKCU players, causing OCU to play shorthanded from the 73rd minute to the end.
The victory marks WTAMU's 100th all-time victory for the Lady Buffs as a program under head coach Butch Lauffer.
The Lady Buffs extend their overall record to 6-3-1,(1-1-1 in LSC) and resume conference action Sunday, October 13th at 3 p.m. at Portales, N.M. against Eastern New Mexico in a the first ever meeting between the border-rivals, as ENMU is in its inaugural season.
From here on out WTAMU will be playing conference games in hopes of defending their LSC regular season championship.
