TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The West Texas A&M women's soccer team notched a 4-3 overtime victory over conference opponent Northeastern State with the help of junior Elisabeth Markussen's two goals, including the gamewinner in the second overtime period. Sophomores Adi Stein and Brianna McMillian each dished out two assists in the win as the Lady Buffs improved to 9-3 overall with a 3-2 conference mark.

Northeastern State struck first with a goal from Early Villegas in the 20th minute, but WTAMU tied the game when Markussen scored her first goal off of an assist from Stein.

Sophomore Kendal Kitchens gave the Lady Buffs the lead 11 minutes later when McMillian sent the ball to the far post and Kitchens knocked it past NSU goalkeeper Patricia Nardy.

McMillian tallied her second assist just two minutes into the second half when she sent a corner kick into the box and sophomore Kayla Sisco found the back of the net to put WTAMU up 3-1.

NSU came back and scored two consecutive goals in the half-Villegas scored her second goal of the game followed by a goal from Melissa Nelson to tie the game at three goals apiece.

The first overtime period saw the teams remain knotted at 3-3 to force a second overtime. In the 112th minute, Stein connected with Markussen again as the junior forward scored her second goal of the game when she beat goalkeeper PJ Davis to give the Lady Buffs the win.

Sophomore Lisha Jungmann made seven saves in 111:57 minutes of play as WTAMU went 1-1 over the weekend.

The next Lady Buff match is Oct. 12 when they face Southwestern Oklahoma at 1 p.m. at The Pitch.
