Lady Buff Soccer Beats Conference Foe Angelo State, 3-0
Sept. 30, 2007
CANYON, Texas - Freshman Taylor Cromeens scored the game-winning goal in the Lady Buffs' 3-0 win over the Angelo State Rambelles on Sunday afternoon at the Pitch to help the West Texas A&M women's soccer team improve to 8-2 overall, 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play. WTAMU's defense was solid in the match as sophomore goalkeeper Lisha Jungmann made four saves on six ASU shots on goal. Junior Jessica Hartley and sophomore Kendal Kitchens each tallied one team save as they stopped the Rambelles' shots from the goal line on two separate plays. Cromeens opened up the Lady Buffs' scoring in the 20th minute when she sent the ball sailing over ASU goalkeeper Natalie Shannon's head to the upper right corner from 25 yards out. In the second half, sophomores Jenelle Nedd and Kayla Sisco netted goals for WTAMU. Nedd scored in the 50th minute when sophomore Brianna McMillian took the ball to the left goal line and sent it to the center of the box. Nedd one-timed the ball to the right side, underneath Shannon, to put the Lady Buffs up 2-0. WTAMU rounded out their scoring push when junior Samantha Calcote sent the ball through the air to the top of the box; Sisco chested it down and volleyed the ball to the right side to give the women a 3-0 lead. The Lady Buffs continue conference play next weekend as they travel to Ada, Okla., for a 1 p.m. match against East Central on Oct. 5, then head to Tahlequah, Okla., for a 1 p.m. match against Northeastern State on Oct. 7.
