DENVER - In a rematch of last year's Midwest Regional quarterfinal match, the West Texas A&M University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 3 Metro State University Friday afternoon.

This is the second-straight loss to Metro for the Lady Buffs who lost to the Roadrunners in the quarterfinals in sudden death shootouts on the final kicker.

In Friday's physical match that saw 21 fouls, the first half of the match was relatively quiet, statistically speaking. The Roadrunners had six shots, two on goal, while WTAMU had three shots but only one hitting the target.

The second half saw more action as Metro State picked up the pressure firing nine shots at WTAMU's junior goaltender Jamie Griffis, while WTAMU was held to only four. The foul count almost doubled in the second half as both teams were looking for that pivotal go-ahead goal.

That goal finally game at the 59:29 mark for Metro State's Meisha Pyke (junior, forward) when she got hold of a loose ball in front of WTAMU's net and fired it past Griffis.

With the win, Metro State's sophomore goaltender Mandy Allen earned her ninth win of the season and seventh straight shutout.

WTAMU is now 4-2 on the year and wraps up its three-match road trip Sunday at Lakewood, Colo. when the Lady Buffs meet Colorado Christian at 2 p.m. Central Time.
