Lady Buffs Throttle Texas Wesleyan, 6-0

CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M women's soccer team exploded to tally four goals during the first 15 minutes of play Wednesday and never looked back, cruising to a 6-0 victory over Texas Wesleyan at The Pitch. The win improves the Lady Buffs' record on the year to 5-1 while Texas Wesleyan sees its season mark fall to 2-4-1. Sophomore Kendal Kitchens got the scoring-fest started just 6:33 into the contest, burying a cross from sophomore Jenelle Nedd for the icebreaker. Under a minute later, WTAMU leading scorer Elisabeth Markussen make it 2-0 as she beat TWU goalkeeper Brittany O'Brien one-on-one following a pass from Natalie Gooch. The assault continued as Miriam Dominguez scored off an assist from Nedd at the 10:09 mark and Nedd got a tally of her own in the 14th minute, pushing the Lady Buff advantage to 4-0. Junior Danea Fontana sent WTAMU to the intermission with a a 5-0 lead as she scored her second goal of the season off a give-and-go pass from Dominguez. During the second half, the action calmed with only one tally on the scoreboard, courtesy of WTAMU's Cassie Hiser at the 80:40 mark. Sophomore goalkeeper Lisha Jungmann started the game for the Lady Buffs and collected five saves during first 78:28 before being replaced by senior Sarah Pipkin late in the contest.
West Texas A&M women's soccer is back in action on Sept. 19th when the team takes the road to battle Texas-Permian Basin. |
