Box Score

The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat to New Mexico Highlands University, Sunday afternoon at a hot and breezy Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

WTAMU outshot NMHU, 18-12, but couldn't hit the net.

The Lady Buffs are now 1-2-1 on the season, while the Cowgirls are 2-2-0, winning their second match in as many days, as they defeated Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday, 1-0, at Kimbrough.

Martina Brtan scored NMHU's goal in the 21st minute, firing a shot from just inside the right corner of the 18-yard box that was over the outstretched hands of WTAMU sophomore keeper Sarah Anderson and into the upper left corner of the net.

The Cowgirls struck again less than nine minutes later, as Veronica Padilla found the back of the net from 10-yards out off an assist from Selena Hernandez.

WTAMU had several chances, but couldn't capitalize, including a free kick by junior forward Sarit Shenar from about 20-yards out that beat NMHU keeper McKaila Dorman, but hit the crossbar.

Anderson and Dorman each had six saves in the match.

WTAMU will return to action next Friday, Sept. 9, hosting St. Mary's University in a doubleheader with the WTAMU men's team. The Lady Buffs play at Noon, followed by the Buffs' home-opener at 3 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
