The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team used a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the match to pull away for a 3-1 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University Thursday night at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. The Lady Buffs are now 1-1-1 after getting their first victory of the year in their home-opener.

NWOSU falls to 1-1-0 on the year, and will return to the turf of Kimbrough on Saturday at Noon to meet New Mexico Highlands University.

WTAMU will face NM Highlands on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Kimbrough.

Junior forward Sarit Shenar put the Lady Buffs ahead, 1-0, with a goal in the 40th minute, getting nice passes from junior forward Whitney McClain and freshman midfielder Sally deJongh.

That would remain the score until the 83rd minute, when NWOSU's Ashley Guinn took a deflection off a free kick and buried it in the back of net past WTAMU sophomore netminder Sarah Anderson to knot the score at 1-all.

With overtime looming omnisciently, WTAMU increased pressure, drawing a free kick from about 30 yards out. Freshman forward Danae Fontana sent a ball into Shenar who was battling for position with the NWOSU defender. Shener brought it down and left it for freshman midfielder Elisabeth Markussen who drilled it into the upper left V from 10-yards out.

Less than two minutes later, senior midfielder Misti Northcutt fed Shenar, who then dribbled through, past and around the NWOSU defense and keeper and kissed the ball off the post for her second goal of the match and third of the season.

WTAMU outshot NWOSU, 12-5, including 6-3 in shots on goal.

Anderson made two saves, while her counterpart, NWOSU's Delydia Gay recorded three saves.
