WT Women's Soccer Rolls To 7-1 Victory Over Adams State
Aug. 26, 2007
CANYON, Texas - Junior Samantha Calcote and sophomore Kendal Kitchens each scored two goals in the Lady Buffs' 7-1 win over Adams State College on Sunday afternoon in Canyon, Texas. Kitchens also tallied two assists for a team-high six points, all of which were recorded in the last 11 minutes of the game. WTAMU opened the scoring in the first half when junior Elisabeth Markussen crossed the ball from the left side of the goal. Adams State goalkeeper Brooke Sorrell dove and tried to tip the ball away, but sophomore Brianna McMillian poked the ball into an open net from one yard out to put the Lady Buffs ahead 1-0. Calcote scored her first goal of the game just five minutes later when an Adams State defender blocked a shot at the top of the box right to her feet and she fired a shot to the upper right corner of the goal. Her second goal came 10 minutes into the second half; sophomore Miriam Dominguez passed the ball from the right side of the field and Calcote attacked the goal from the left side, sending the ball into the bottom right corner. Kitchens tallied her points in the second half all on the last four goals of the game, including one assist and two goals resulting from corner kicks. Her first assist came when she passed to Markussen from the left goal line and Markussen lifted the ball to the top of the net from one yard out. Kitchens took a corner kick with 10:40 left in the game and sophomore Kayla Sisco headed the ball past the Adams State goalie to make it 5-1. Kitchens took another corner kick just over one minute later and the ball deflected off an Adams State defender into the net.
The last goal of the game - Kitchens' second - came off a corner kick, as well. McMillian took a corner kick from the right side of the field and Kitchens jumped up and knocked the ball into the far side of the net from one yard out. Adams State's only goal came when Lauren Marts scored with less than five minutes left in the first half; her clearing ball bounced into the net, out of WT goalie Lisha Jungmann's reach.
The Lady Buffs' next games are Friday, August 31, when they face Colorado State-Pueblo and Sunday, September 2, when they face Washburn; both games will be played at SWOSU in Weatherford, Okla. |
