Lady Buff Soccer Defeats Division I Texas Tech In Offseason Game

The West Texas A&M University Lady Buff soccer team played in a spring game against Division I Texas Tech and were victorious, 4-2.
Texas Tech jumped out to an early lead but the Lady Buffs quickly tied up the game at 1-1 with a goal from senior-to-be Kelly Ulm. Ulm didn't waste any time as she scored her second goal within 10 minutes of her first goal which put the Lady Buffs on top by a score of, 2-1.
WTAMU got a late first half goal from sophomore-to-be Danae Fontana which put the Lady Buffs up, 3-1, after one half of play.
The second half was held scoreless for both sides until halfway through when Tech broke through and scored to cut the lead to, 3-2.
The Lady Buffs scored their fourth goal late in the second half as up and upcoming sophomore Sally deJongh received a pass from fellow classmate Elisabeth Markussen and DeJogh put it in the back of the net to give WTAMU a, 4-2, advantage.
Texas Tech had some opportunities late in the game to get back in it but were denied on some good saves from junior goalie Sarah Pipkin.
The WTAMU women's team ended its season with a 10-6-1 mark. For the first time in five years WTAMU did not play in the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship game, as the second-seeded Lady Buffs were knocked off in the semifinals.
The Lady Buffs begin their 2006 season on the road at the beginning of next semester at New Mexico Highlands on August 24, 2006. The Lady Buffs first home game will be on August 30, 2006 against UT-Permian Basin.
