Assistant coach Wes Schevers spent much of his youth living and playing soccer in Atlanta, Ga., where he played for the Canterbury Lions Roswell Santos, Tucker Soccer Club and the Cobb Football Club. Schevers was a member of Georgia's soccer Olympic Development Program every year from ages 12-16. In 1995, Schevers spent a week in France with Georgia's ODP Team competing against the professional Racing Club de Lens and the French Regional Team. In 1996, Schevers was invited back on a similar tour to Costa Rica playing against the Deportivo Saprissa and the Club Sport Herediano. Later that year, Schevers moved to Jackson, Miss., where he played for the Jackson Football Club and Mississippi's ODP Team. He also spent some time in England training with two professional clubs -- Preston North End and Chester City Football Club. After finishing high school, Schevers played for West Texas A&M University for five seasons while earning his bachelor's degree in business administration. During his time at WT, Schevers was named to the Lone Star Conference All-Tournament First Team in 2000 and 2001. In 2002, while serving as the captain of the team, he was named LSC first team All-Conference and second team Adidas NSCAA All-MidWest Region. Schevers was also a member of the most successful men's soccer team in the history of the program, finishing with a 30-8-3 record in two seasons. During his time with the Buffaloes, the squads won three LSC Championships, one LSC Tournament Championship, two NCAA MidWest Region Championships and had two consecutive NCAA Elite Eight appearances. In 2003, Schevers became the graduate assistant coach at West Texas A&M University working with both the men's and women's programs. In December of 2005, he completed his master's degree in business administration and signed on full-time to work with as an assistant coach with the men's team. Schevers received his USSF National "B" License in June 2006. |
