West Texas A&M University athletic director Ed Harris announced today (August 17) that men's and women's golf coach Brad Borden has resigned, effective immediately.

Borden, who taught mathematics classes at WTAMU part-time, has accepted a full-time teaching position at Amarillo College.

"We're sorry to lose Coach Borden right before the year starts, but we're happy for him and his family. We wish him nothing but the best," Harris said.

Borden just finished his fifth year guiding the WTAMU golf teams, restarting the programs in 2001. He was born in Waco, Texas and later moved to El Paso, Texas as a freshman in high school. Borden graduated from El Paso Hanks High School in 1986 and began attending Texas A&M University. After two years, he transferred to WTAMU for one year, playing sparingly on the WTAMU Basketball team, before transferring back to Texas A&M for his senior year.

Borden received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Texas A&M in 1991, as well as his teacher's certification. In 2000, Borden received his master's degree in education from Wayland Baptist University.

Harris said an immmediate search is underway for Borden's successor.
