Olympia, Wash. - The West Texas A&M women's golf team placed second at the St. Martin Invitational, hosted by St. Martin University on Oct. 9-10 at Olympia Golf and Country Club in Olympia, Wash.

Playing on course conditions much different than what they are accustomed to, the Lady Buffs nonetheless shot 315-311=626 in placing second. Western Washington won the team title with a two-day score of 312-307=619.

The Lady Buffs were led by Whitney Osborne (junior, Amarillo, Texas) who shot rounds of 76-78=154 to finish four strokes off the pace in fourth place. Mollie Peterson (79-77=156) was fifth, while Amanda Davidson (freshman, Ankney, Iowa) tied for fifth, carding 79-78=157; Hammerli Sriyai (freshman, Bangkok, Thailand) tied for eighth with scores of 81-78=159 and Lacy Torbert (senior, Hereford, Texas) placed 18th, shooting 83-87=170. Western Washington's Kaitlin Parker (77-73-150) and Christa Goldie (74-78-152) finished first and second overall.

"The girls played very well," Coach Meredith Jameson said. "The conditions were very different to what they are accustomed to. We are used to hard, dry courses and getting a decent roll out of our shots. But up here, the fairways and greens are so wet and lush that the ball just stops as soon as it lands."

The Lady Buffs next outing will be Oct. 13-14 when they compete in the Western Washington Invitational, held at Bellingham Country Club, in Bellingham, Wash.
