Final Stats

Alamosa, Colo. - West Texas A&M University had each of the top five individual finishers as the Lady Buffs defended their Grizzly Invitational women's golf tournament title as the two-day tournament concluded Tuesday at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa, Colo.

Head coach Meredith Jameson's Lady Buff squad recorded a team score of 317 in Tuesday's second round around the par-71, 5,809-yard track and finished with a 2-day total of 643, good for a 54-shot win over the runner-up and host Adams State College Grizzlies, who finished with a 697.

"Our entire team played very well, including the freshmen," Coach Jameson said. "That shows the depth of our team this year. In the past, we've been lacking a solid number-four and five player."

Regis University, led by Alex Semanko, who tied for sixth with another WTAMU player in freshman Sara Coe (Amarillo, Texas), threatened ASC for the second spot but finished third with a 2-day score of 701. The Rangers finished with a 348 on Tuesday, also a 5-shot improvement, over their Monday score. Colorado State University-Pueblo finished fourth at 727 while Iowa Western Community College, coached by former ASC men's golfer Chris Shives, finished fifth at 740. Oklahoma Panhandle State University rounded out the field at 763.

Lady Buff freshman Amanda Davidson (Ankeny, Iowa) claimed individual medalist honors as she recorded her second straight round of 6-over par 77, good for a 2-day total of 154. Davidson, a true freshman from Ankeny, Iowa, was competing individually and did not figure into WTAMU's team scoring effort. Fellow WTAMU freshman Hammerli Sriyai (Bangkok, Thailand) carded the tournament's best round, a 4-over par 75 on Tuesday, and finished second just one stroke back. 2007 Grizzly Invitational medalist Mollie Peterson (Texico, N.M.), Whitney Osborne (Amarillo, Texas) and Lacy Torbert (Hereford, Texas), the last of whom also competed individually, all tied for third at 162.

"Amanda and Hammerli don't play like freshmen," coach Jameson continued. "They play with the confidence and experience of someone who has played at this level. They have the skills to help lead this team into postseason play."

Not surprisingly, the Lady Buffs finished atop each team and individual statistic. As a team, they made 12 birdies and 73 pars. Adams State was second in each category with seven birdies and 54 pars. Sriyai, Stephanie Boldger (Houston, Texas) and Peterson each recorded three birdies to share the tournament lead in that category while Davidson was "Miss Consistent" making 23 pars in 36 holes, four more than Sriyai.

The Lady Buffs next outing will be Sept. 15-16 when they compete NSU Women's Classic, held at Cherry Spring Golf Club in Tahlequah, Okla.
