FINDLAY, Ohio - The West Texas A&M women's golf team placed in a tie for ninth among the 12 teams entered at the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships, held at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.

The teams played a total of 54 holes over the past four days. Thursday's second round was postponed due to rain, forcing the competitors to play 36 holes - two rounds- on Friday.

Playing in chilly, damp conditions, the Lady Buffs posted a final round score of 334, giving them a four-round composite of 1318, after recording scores of 329-326-329 over the first three rounds on the par-72, 6,219-yard Findlay CC course. That four-round total tied them with Concordia St. Paul for ninth place overall. WT finished 88 strokes behind team champion Nova Southeastern (314-302-307-307=1230) and 15 strokes behind the eighth-place team, Upper Iowa (321-329-322-331=1303).

Mollie Peterson (junior, Texico, N.M.) led the Lady Buffs from start to finish, shooting rounds of 81-78-81-87=313 to place 43rd, individually. She was followed by Hammerli Sriyai (freshman, Bangkok, Thailand) who placed 45th with rounds of 81-88-79-81=329. Lacy Torbert (senior, Hereford, Texas) tied for 47th after carding rounds of 85-83-83-82=333. Sara Coe (freshman, Amarillo, Texas) placed in a tie for 54th after recording four-round scores of 82-84-86-87=339, while Whitney Osborne (junior, Amarillo, Texas) completed the tourney in a tie for 64th after shooting rounds of 91-81-88-84=344.

"I was proud of the way our girls hung in there and played after getting off to such a sluggish start," said WT head coach Meredith Jameson. "The course played very long and with all the rain we received during the tournament, the fairways were saturated.

"Overall, it was a very good experience for us to get to compete at this level."

Univ. of Indianapolis' Lindsay McBride, who was second after the first round of play, topped the leaderboard with scores of 74-75-72-77=298. Finishing second, individually, were Nova Southeastern's Sandra Changkija (76-74-75-75=300) and Pfeiffer's Charlene Reid (70-80-77-73=300).

Grand Valley State (1245) placed second to Nova Southeastern in the team standings, while Rollins College and Indianapolis (1248) tied for third place honors.
