GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The West Texas A&M women's golf team placed seventh at the Grand Canyon Women's Invitational, hosted by Grand Canyon University on April 6-7 at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.

The Lady Buffs shot two-day scores of 316-316=632 in placing seventh on the par 72-6,025-yard course to finish two strokes behind sixth-place St. Martin's (314-316=630). CSU-Monterey Bay won the team title with two-day scores of 300-308=608.

Leading the Lady Buffs was Hammerli Sriyai (freshman, Bangkok, Thailand) who carded two-day scores of 77-80=157 to place in a tie for 19th individually. Mollie Peterson (junior, Texico, N.M.) finished in a tie for 22nd along with teammate, freshman Amanda Davidson (Ankeny, Iowa). Peterson shot scores of 79-79=158, while Davidson carded two-round scores of 80-78=158. Whitney Osborne (junior, Amarillo, Texas) had rounds of 83-79=162 to tie for 49th and rounding out the Lady Buffs scoring was Stephanie Boldger (senior, Houston, Texas) who placed in a tie for 50th after shooting scores of 80-83=163.

Sonoma State's Brittany Carerra (73-74=147) took top individual honors, while the CSU-Monterey Bay duo of Darcy Lake (74-74=148) took second and Cicilia Chudivan (75-74=149) was third.

"This was one of the more important tournaments that we will compete in this spring, because it serves as a pre-regional event for us" said WT head coach Meredith Jameson.  "We get to go head-to-head against quite a few of the West Region teams.

"We played hard, but not necessarily well. Overall, it was still a good tournament for us and should prepare us for the tournaments that lie ahead."

The Lady Buffs next outing will be April 20-21 when they compete in the Lone Star Conference Championships, to be held at the Winstar Golf Club, in Thackerville, Okla.
