Lady Buffs Finish Fourth At WTAMU/Subway Invite Tuesday

Despite the windy conditions, Western New Mexico University maintained its 17-stroke lead Tuesday to win the West Texas A&M University Subway Invitational at Tascosa Country Club at Amarillo, Texas. Ashley Kelley from the University of Central Oklahoma captured individual medalist honors, winning a one-hole playoff with WNMU's Katharine Dorris after both players tied with 152's. Host WTAMU finished fourth in the 10-team field.
Kelley's approach shot on the par-4 10th hole was over a tree and landed within four feet of the hole and she tapped in for the birdie while Dorris bogeyed the hole.
WNMU and UCO both fired combined 320's Tuesday, and the Mustangs finished with 631, while the Bronchos tallied a 648. Tarleton State University was third (666), followed by host WTAMU (673) and Texas A&M University-Commerce (697) rounded out the top five. Cameron University was sixth (703), followed by Southwestern Oklahoma State University (719), University of Nebraska-Kearney (736), Montana State University-Billings (759) and Oklahoma Panhandle State University (819).
Kelley carded the tournament's low round of 74 Tuesday and Dorris recorded a 76 to both finish with 152. UCO's Emily Kirk was third with a 155, while WNMU teammates Kim Cammer and Tina Bickford tied for fourth with 157's. Cathryn Uselton from Tarleton State was sixth with 158, while WTAMU junior Beth Ann Nussbaum carded a 160, good for seventh. Adi Attaway from TAMU-Commerce and Tarleton State's Kerri Self tied for eighth with 163's and WNMU's Heather Dorris completed the Top 10 with a 165.
The Lady Buffs had three in the Top 20, as Nussbaum was joined by senior Rachel Clark was 13th with a 167, while sophomore Madison Easley was tied for 15th with a 171. Freshmen Brittyne Lewis (176) and Stephanie Marufo (188) were tied for 24th and tied for 40th, respectively.
This was the final tune-up for most of these teams before their respective conference tournaments. WTAMU, along with Cameron, Central Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma, Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce will be competing in the Lone Star Conference Championships April 17-18 at Trophy Club, Texas.
