Lady Buffs Place Sixth After Round One

CANYON, Texas - After outstanding shooting in the first round at the Tascosa Country Club on Monday, the West Texas A&M women's golf team finds itself in sixth place at the Lady Buff Stampede. WTAMU is just a mere 28 strokes behind the leader Central Oklahoma, who shot a 315 at the end of day one. Individually for the Lady Buffs, Mollie Peterson and Kaylee Zaiontz are leading the charge as they shot an 85 to tie for 20th. Their 85 is just 12 strokes behind the leaders Mari Suursalu (UCO) and Jessica Harbin (St. Mary's), who went home with a 73, which was just one shot over par. Sitting just a shot behind Peterson and Zaiontz is Whitney Osborne, who finished day one with an 86. Nipping at Osborne's heels is Beth Ann Nussbaum, who ended her day with an 87. Rounding out the individual scores for WTAMU is Krista Williams, who cut four strokes off in her back nine to end day one with a 100. The Lady Buff Stampede will conclude Tuesday at the Tascosa Country Club. Following Tuesday's play, the next action for WTAMU will be April 15 at the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Trophy Club, Texas.
