Sophomore Shannon Lee won both open rail events two weeks ago

CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M equestrian team remains unbeaten after placing as the high point team in its last two shows. Two weeks ago, the Lady Buffs won in Wyoming and they were the high point team at their home event this past weekend.

During the first day of its Western Show two weeks ago, WTAMU placed three riders in first. Sophomore Shannon Lee received one of the first place finishes in the Open Rail Show, while freshman Errolynne Franck and sophomore Whitney Fouts tied for first in the Advanced Show.

On Sunday, the Lady Buff equestrian team had five first place finishers, which included Lee, who was the high point for both days. In the Advanced Show, junior Courtney Douglas placed first and classmate Kristine Thompson won the Novice Event after placing third on Saturday.

In the final event two weeks ago, junior Evelynne Pickthall and freshman Peggy Schwertner tied for first in the Intermediate Event.

During the first day of its home event, WTAMU had six first place finishers on Saturday and four first place riders Sunday. Fouts, who won the Open Flat on Saturday, placed first in the Open Fences Show on Sunday and was named High Point Rider.

Junior Catherine Brown placed first in the Intermediate Flat Show on Saturday, while Douglas placed first both days in Novice Flat Event.

For the Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter Show, sophomore Niya Doychinova and classmate Laura Wilder tied for first Saturday. Rebecca Hart was first in the event on Sunday, as the Lady Buffs took home the third and fourth place finishers.

In the final event on Saturday, freshman Amanda Hes placed first in the Walk-Trot Show, while placing fourth on Sunday.

The event on Saturday and Sunday was the last show of the fall season for the equestrian team. WTAMU's next show is Feb. 3 and Feb. 4 for a Hunter Show at the University of Colorado.
