Tryouts are open to any undergraduate WT student with a passion for riding. We take riders from a variety of skill levels and riding backgrounds, there is even a spot on the team for those without any riding experience. What type of commitment is required of team members?
Each team member dedicates about 15 hours per week to the team in the form of riding, fitness programs, barn work and meetings. All team members must maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. to be associated with the Equestrian Team. What type of riders are you looking for?
We are looking for riders with a natural seat that have the desire, not necessarily the experience, to excel in the areas that we compete in Western Horsemanship, Reining, Hunt Seat Equitation and Equitation over Fences. We will also take in to consideration athletic ability and a trainable attitude. What do I need to bring for tryouts?
Each potential team member needs to fill out an informational packet that can be obtained at the Horse Center Office and is due back August 27th by 5:00 p.m. Show clothes are completely unnecessary. All tack and horses will be provided by WT for the tryout process. Riders should wear appropriate clothing per the discipline(s) they wish to tryout in; hunt riders in half chaps or tall boots and western riders in jeans and boots. Tops should be fitted and professional.
