Western Team Of WTAMU Equestrian In Action This Weekend At New Mexico State
Feb. 24, 2006
The West Texas A&M University Equestrian team will be traveling to Las Cruces, N.M. this weekend for two shows hosted by New Mexico State University, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26 at the NMSU Equestrian Center. These two shows will be the last western shows before regionals, and the last chance for the Lady Riders to secure first place for an automatic spot at nationals in May.
The WTAMU western team is currently sitting second in their region by two points behind New Mexico State University. Junior novice rider Courtney Douglas and sophomore advanced rider Shannon Lee are expected to qualify for regionals this weekend. Others riders to watch this weekend are Krissy Mailman, a sophomore open rider, and Amy Thompson, a freshman open rider.
After the showdown of the western teams this weekend, the WTAMU Lady Riders will be back in Las Cruces next weekend for the last two English shows. The Lady Buffs' hunt seat team is currently sitting in second place regionally and hopes to capture first and earn a spot at nationals.
The Regional Championship Show will be March 11 at Colorado, with riders advancing to the Zone Championships, April 9 at Stillwater, Okla.
