Four Lady Buffs Qualify for Regional Equestrian Competition

CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M equestrian team had a tremendous showing this past weekend in Laramie, Wyo., in the Laramie County Community College Western Show. The team was led by freshmen Peggy Schwertner and Katie Sorensen and sophomores Kassidy Barlow and Laura Wilder. All four Lady Buffs qualified for the Regional competition being held at Texas Tech on March 2nd.

Over the weekend, the Lady Buffs accumulated 11 first place finishes, five second place finishes, six third place finishes, and 16 top seven finishes. On the team side of the event, WT received first place honors from Josie Norwood in Novice Horshmanship, Katy Madson in Intermediate I Horshmanship, and Katie Sorenson and Rachel Hilton in the Walk Trot. Sophomore Shannon Lee was named Reserve High Point Rider, while the Lady Buffs were named the Reserve High Point Team.

Individually for West Texas A&M, Barlow and Brynna Baker both took home first place in the Walk Trot, while Lee and Errolynne Frank both finished first in Reining. The other first place finishers for the Lady Buffs were Ryan Eberlein in Advanced Horsemanchip, Rebecca Hart in Intermediate II, and Katy Mason in Intermediate I.
