WTAMU Riders Place Well At NM State Show

The West Texas A&M University Lady Buff equestrian team traveled to Las Cruces, N.M. this past weekend for their first Western competition at New Mexico State University. The Lady Buffs placed well both days with the team coming in third on Saturday and tied for first on Sunday.
Freshman open riders Annie Garrett and Sandy Ramirez both won first place in the Western Rail Class the first day. Along with Krissy Mailman, sophomore advanced rider, who claimed third place in the first show. Senior rider Meghan Mackey was third place in her Novice class.
The second show WTAMU equestrians received top honors as the team took first place. Open rider, Amy Thompson, tied for high point rider of the day as she took first place in Open Reining and Open Rail. Again, freshman Open rider Sandy Ramirez showed well, receiving second place in her Rail class. Jessica Crouch, sophomore rider, was first in her Novice class along with sophomore rider, Shannon Lee, who took first place in her Advanced class.
"I am really pleased with the high placings this weekend. The girls rode smart and that is all I can ask of them. I am looking forward to more success at the next show," WTAMU Equestrian head coach Taylor Moss said.
The next competition for the Lady Buff riders is at home on Nov.19, for two English shows. Following the November show the Lady Buff riders will have a break and return to action Feb. 11 at home for two Western Shows.
