Lady Buffs Ranked Sixth In Preseason WBCA NCAA Division II Poll

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M opens the 2008 season ranked sixth in the WBCA NCAA Division II women’s basketball poll. The Lady Buffs, who closed out last season with a trip to the regional tournament open the season Sunday, Nov. 16 when they host Huston-Tillotson at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas at 2:00 p.m. CST.

Defending NCAA Division II Champion Northern Kentucky University tops the poll, receiving 22 of the possible 26 first place votes. California (Pa.) comes in at the number two spot, receiving one first place vote and South Central region member Washburn took third place in the poll. Franklin Pierce and Alaska - Anchorage round out the top five, with West Texas A&M taking the sixth spot as well as three first-place votes.

One other Lone Star Conference institution received recognition as the Central Oklahoma took 19th place on the poll. Emporia State, another South Central region institution, tied for 15th on the poll.

The Lady Buffs are set to begin the 2008-09 season against Huston-Tillotson on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.
